Lake Erie Pharmaceutical Pollution

In order to produce a thorough report regarding pharmaceutical and agricultural pollution in our watersheds and potable water resources, The Erie Wire will be conducting interviews with local authorities on the issue as well as researching trends around the nation and connections between pharmaceutical and biochemical companies.

In the meantime, we encourage our readers to visit a PBS Frontline documentary called “Poisoned Waters” in order to get an introductory idea on how this kind of pollution is significantly affecting the ecology of our coastal water systems.

Below is a link to an article on research conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at Old Woman’s Creek that concluded a presence of pharmaceuticals in the water. This article was brought to our attention through an Erie Wire subscriber, and we extend our gratitude to this reader for allowing everyone to get a chance to see what research has uncovered within our local watersheds. As always, we do encourage readers to send us tips on information they feel should be investigated.
